Kamberg Nature Reserve

Kamberg is a delightfully attractive camp in the KZN Midlands, surrounded by trout-rich dams and river frontage, gently rolling open grassland and rocky slopes, nestled in the foothills of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, a World Heritage Site.

Although smaller than many of the other Drakensberg and Midlands getaways, Kamberg offers something special for the discerning visitor, with an exclusive sense of peace and quiet, and the feeling of really being away from it all. The Mooi River which flows through the reserve, adds significantly to the Kamberg experience with excellent trout fishing for keen fly-fishermen.

Wildlife species in the reserve include, eland, oribi, reedbucK, mountain reedbuck, blesbok, black wildebeest, grey rhebuck and duiker. Small mammals such as Cape clawless otter, genet, dassie and serval may be spotted.

There are five 2 bedded chalets and one 6 bed cottage. All units are self catering. All chalets are serviced daily. Stillerust, an old farmhouse situated in the east of the reserve, offers rustic accommodation for 10 people.

Kamberg has access to several scenic and interesting self-guided trails. A booklet with full details of these is available from the reception office. Three pleasant picnic sites near the river allow quiet rest and relaxation in a beautiful and scenic setting.

One of the highlights is the San Rock Art Interpretation Centre which, through a multimedia experience, provides visitors with unique insight into the lifestyle of the San hunter-gatherers who once inhabited these valleys. Trained community guides are available to take visitors to the Game Pass Shelter, rich with highly significant works of San art in their distinctive polychrome images. International research has identified these as some of the most vitally important San rock paintings ever described.

There is a communal lounge with satellite TV.and a small shop which stocks basic provisions.
